ENEL HQ, Italy
Located on Viale Regina Margherita, the historical building stands 42 meters tall and is composed of seven interconnected blocks, with ten floors above ground and four underground.
Once a landmark of early 20th-century architecture, the building has long been part of the city’s identity.
Its transformation represents an opportunity to reconnect heritage with contemporary needs.
The renovation, covering a total area of approximately 80,000 square meters, was designed by Antonio Citterio & Patricia Viel to enhance user wellbeing and foster a more flexible, collaborative approach to work.
Together, we reimagined the spaces to adapt to new modes of interaction — from open-plan layouts that encourage communication to quiet zones designed for concentration and comfort.
The project embraces the principles of bioclimatic, sustainable, and biophilic design, integrating natural light, greenery, and efficient energy systems.
Every choice — from material selection to spatial configuration — contributes to achieving LEED Gold and WELL certification, demonstrating our shared commitment to environmental responsibility and human-centric design.
Developed entirely in BIM, the project benefited from a highly coordinated and transparent process, allowing architects, engineers, and contractors to collaborate seamlessly throughout every stage.
Structural upgrades were carried out with the utmost respect for the existing framework, bringing the building to seismic class 4 and ensuring durability and safety over time.
This intervention not only revitalizes a historic structure, but also sets a new standard for sustainable office environments — a place where innovation, wellbeing, and architectural heritage coexist in perfect balance.
